Meanwhile, back in the Jerte Valley where we had our “no hotel” incident, we had met a couple at breakfast (at our new hotel) who spoke English….he was British, she an American, Paul and Carol. They were Gypsies like us and had just left England where for 9 years they had been caretakers of the Bishop’s Palace, Wells, Somerset, (UK)
and were looking for a warmer drier climate to spend their winters in. We exchanged e-mail addresses and continued to keep in touch as they were headed to Tavira in Portugal. They had found a beautiful apartment just outside of Tavira in the country and invited us to visit them. Apparently there was no one else staying there but them. We had really enjoyed Tavira (and Portugal, in general) when we were there a few years ago so we decided because it was so close we would detour over that way.
We eventually found them here at the Fazendinh Guest house…
We had an endless supply of pomegranates and sunshine and fun with our new friends, so we stayed for 3 nights. One night we had a BBQ by the pool and met some friends of Paul and Carol, Jeff and Maria. Carol brought out her harp and gave us a lovely private concert! We rediscovered Tavira and Indian cuisine! Wow, it was great to get some spice in our life!
